Antiques, works of art of every kind, and of course the famous azulejos: the Feira da Ladra flea market, located in the Alfama district, is the ideal place to find a unique souvenir to bring back to your friends or family. In the 12th century, the market had a reputation for collecting stolen goods, hence the name 'ladra', which means thief.
The Monastery of Saint Jerome is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located in the Belém district, it was built during the period of the maritime expeditions of the "Great Discoveries" (15th and 17th centuries), on the orders of Manuel I, then head of the country. After housing a community of monks, the building was used as a school and orphanage until 1940.
During your visit you can discover the tombs of illustrious figures from Portuguese history, including members of the royal family, as well as a rich decor, with a variety of carved motifs on the pillars and ceilings.

The buildings and relics have remained in an excellent state of preservation and include cannons, eighteen towers and underground chambers. There is a restaurant on site where you can enjoy a meal while gazing at the beauty of the city below.
Alfama is a popular neighbourhood in the heart of Lisbon. You can get a glimpse of Alfama by taking the Tram 28, but we highly recommend exploring this area on foot - there is so much to see here: wander through a series of narrow cobbled streets with quaint restaurants and boutique shops. Lose yourself in the colourful streets of this charming neighbourhood!

A symbol of Lisbon's navy, the Torre de Belém is a Gothic tower that stands proudly at the mouth of the River Tejo, protecting the entrance to the city's port. In the 16th century, this building was originally a fort. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Torre de Belém served as a departure point for explorers setting sail during the Great Discoveries.
You can visit the interior rooms that were once used as royal quarters, as well as a chapel and a prison. The tower is open from 10:00 to 18:30 during the summer season.
Your stay in this beautiful Portuguese city is not complete without riding the tram line 28. This tram follows a scenic route through some of the most famous districts such as Baixa and Bairro Alto, and also takes you past popular tourist attractions along the way.
