Where to picnic on the Ile de Ré?

This small island, very popular among tourists, has implemented measures to respect and preserve the environment as much as possible. The diversity of its landscapes and natural areas are such that you are bound to find a place to your liking. Endless beaches, pine forests and vineyards make the dynamics of this magnificent place. Why not organise a picnic during your stay on the Ile de Ré. It is possible to make the most of these sumptuous landscapes while eating local products from the region. Indeed, this can be the opportunity to taste the island's gastronomy, such as its home-made biscuits or its wines.
 
In order to relax and enjoy your picnic you can choose between different settings. The island has many picnic areas and large natural spots to rest. All you have to do is choose your destination!

Beach of the Grange Ile de Ré (Ars-en-Ré)

This protected natural area is located on the Pointe de Grignon in the west of the island. You can enjoy your meal while taking advantage of the beach setting. However, if you wish to swim, this is only possible during high tide. Indeed, at low tide there are many rocks that are not suitable for swimming.
 
Chenal de Goisil (Couarde-sur-mer)

Close to the small port located in the Chenal de Goisil you will find a picnic area. Stroll along the boats on foot or by bike and then settle down on the area and relax. La Couarde is an exceptional natural site that is sure to surprise you.

Near this sandy beach is a picnic area. It is bordered by the dunes and is the ideal place for water sports, especially sailing.

Lay your tablecloth on this beautiful sandy beach and enjoy the fresh wind and ocean waves. This seaside stretches from the Phare des Baleines to the Portes-en-Ré. After your picnic you can take a walk through the Lizay forest which borders the area or visit the lighthouse and its museum. Ideal for combining food and culture.

Parc de la Barbette (Saint-Martin-de-Ré)

To find a free spot on the grass in the city centre you can go to the Parc de la Barbette. It is the ideal place for children. Various games are available on this green area and attractions are offered, including donkey rides. Bordered by the beach and its lighthouse, this setting is also close to the ramparts, a historical site.

In the south of the island, near the Rivedoux-plage, stands a picnic area on a green space. Sit down on one of the tables at your disposal and admire the view of the sea. For children, a playground is not far from the site.

If you are looking for a spot in the heart of nature, this picnic area in the forest of La Combe à l'eau is for you!
Situated on the edge of the ocean, the Pointe de Grignon is ideal for water sports.
 
Montamer Park (Sainte-Marie-de-Ré)

This small wooded park has tables and playgrounds for children. Once you have finished your lunch under the shade of the tamarisk trees you can explore the surrounding area. It is located near the Montamer beach from which you can see the Ile d'Oléron. In the middle of the park and the beach stands a hut which is very well known by the locals and is now part of the postcard landscape.

Finally, if you can't decide between beach and greenery, this is the place for you. The name may ring a bell, as it was made famous in a song by Charles Aznavour. The beach and the forest are opposite each other. You can take a walk through the pine forest and then relax on the beach with a picnic on the sand. Or continue to enjoy the enchanting setting of the woods and settle down on one of the tables or benches under the trees.
