What is the best time of the year to visit Provence?

Provence enjoys a Mediterranean weather all year round. It is a pleasant region in all seasons; offering in turn unique landscapes and activities. Villanovo offers you a list of things to do and see in Provence from Spring to Winter so that you can choose the one that suits you best.

Spring

Season of buds in bloom and synonymous with renewal, Provence in this season breathes an atmosphere full of life and color. The smell of lavender guides visitors to fields full of flowers and vegetable gardens bursting with sunny produce. Flowers are the real stars of the Provencal spring, so set out to discover them, by bike or on foot, poppies, sunflowers and lavender from May to early July. It's a whole palette of colors and smells that is offered to you, the guarantee of postcard landscapes and the most Instagram photos ever.

Summer

Summer

It is to the rhythm of the cicada song that the Provençal people live in summer. A pleasant and dry climate defines the Provencal summer weather, ideal for walks to the tops of the mountains, rivers and fields of the region. It is also the time to sit on the terraces for an aperitif with friends or to start the bbq season with your family. Put down your tablecloth for a picnic on the grass, the perfect time to taste the gastronomy of Provence: tapenade, melons, olives, calissons... For an activity that pleases young and old, we suggest an afternoon of swimming in the lakes of the Luberon or paddling in the creeks of Cassis.

Autumn

Autumn in Provence is a festival of color. The orange leaves of the vines mix with the red of the cherry trees and the yellow of the forests for a visual spectacle in the colors of the Indian summer. The light of the south at this period paints magnificent pictures that will not leave you indifferent. Autumn is also the time of the harvest. Real pride of the Provençal people, the grape harvest remains a tradition for the local wine growers. You will be able to observe parades of tractors and wine producers from the end of August to October.

Winter

Winter

Yes, even in winter, Provence is full of surprises. Nature puts on its white coat but the conviviality of the inhabitants remains. It is the time of truffles, skiing, santons and Christmas markets. Indeed, the Provencal truffle, or black gold, is the tastiest at this time of year. To try it, go to the markets of Carpentras, Richerenches, Ménerbes or Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux. You can also go skiing on the Mont Ventoux to enjoy hot chocolate and reading by the fire.

Now that you know all the secrets of this region, plan your next vacation according to the season that suits you best.
