1) Guarda

1) Guarda

Guarda makes for an excellent destination for those who seek tranquillity combined with a selection of invigorating outdoor activities such as sledging and cross-country skiing. This village is located in the canton of Graubünden, 1653 metres above the Lower Engadine. Guarda was awarded the "Wakker prize" for its wonderful architectural heritage and recognised as a village of "national importance". The façades of the houses have been beautifully preserved dating back to the 17th century. What's more, the village is also entrenched in historical traditions such as the "Chalandamarz"-- which consists in warding off "bad spirits" by clanking cowbells around the streets.

2) Grindelwald

Grindelwald is a dreamy mountain resort paradise, famously known as one of the most attractive and international excursion destinations in Switzerland. Located under the daunting appearance of the "North Face of Eiger", which is a towering mountain that equally awes anyone as it intimidates, makes this a favourite destination for intrepid climbers. When exploring the area, you'll find impressive scenic mountain lookouts that will take your breath away. Moreover, Grindelwald, during the months of highest snowfall, was featured as a film location in Star Wars and James Bond. Not only that, the outdoor enthusiasts will find themselves in a snow-sport haven, as there are dozens of ski slopes and sledging trails- holding the largest ski resort in the region.

3) Andermatt

Andermatt is a perfect destination for nature and outdoor enthusiasts. It's a mountain village situated in the canton of Uri, heavily drenched and surrounded by astonishing nature. With a population of 1,433, this village makes for a charming and relaxing destination to spend time with your loved ones. The famous poet Johann Wolfgang Van Goethe once said: "Of all the places I know, this is the dearest and most interesting to me".
You can also have the chance to explore around the village on a steam railway or a five-horse drawn carriage

4) Sion

4) Sion

With a population of 34,000, Sion might not be the small town you had imagined. However, the feeling that emanates in the area is that of a closely-knit small village. Sion is famous for its sun-kissed climate, majestic mountains and portentous castles. The Castle of Valeria and Tourbillon are the iconic features of its landscape, which overlook one of Switzerland's most ancient cities. Don't forget to try the local wine speciality of Sion in its Old Town square-- the white wine "Ferdant".

5) Wengen

Located in central Switzerland and with a fixed population of 1300 residents, you might think this is a tranquil and somewhat tiny village. However, you're in for a surprise, because Wengen populates around 5,000 inhabitants during the summer months and 10,000 in winter. This is because the area is a popular destination for ski races-- where people from around the country and Europe flock to Wengen to enjoy this sport's high-season.

6) Murren

Murren will make an indelible impression on any visitor. However, this beautiful destination is perfect for James Bond fans. If you are one of them, you will recognise the cable car and revolving restaurant in Schilthorn which were featured in the film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". Also, if you've read any Heidi books or watched the series, Murren strikes as the quintessential Alpine village of the story. Furthermore, this destination is an isolated, car-free village; meaning you'll rarely see or hear any rumbling motor engines-- only the reverberating sounds of its nestling lush nature and mountains. Ultimately, the marvellous panoramic views will envelop the traveller into ease and wonder.

7) Crans-Montana

7) Crans-Montana

Crans-Montana is a stunning location pervaded in otherworldly panoramic views. This sun-drenched high plateau is famously known since 1893 for its amazing climate and fresh air- making it a soothing, sunny paradise all year round, while nestled in an Alpine wonderland. This wonderful haven is characterised by an easygoing lifestyle-- excellent for a relaxing and entertaining vacation. Its fresh air is also known to be the purest in the Swiss Alps. So, if you want a spell away the city to refresh your lungs, breath in the pure clean air of Crans-Montana.
Furthermore, its ski region extends to the Plain Morte glacier at an altitude of 3,000 meters. Its slopes are wide and open, making them ideal for ski beginners. What is more, in winter, the golf courses become a paradise for cross-country skiers and hikers.
