An Awakening of Senses in Mauritius

Mauritius with its white sandy beaches, coconut palms and the blue sea has everything a destination worthy of the most beautiful postcards. In the heart of the Indian Ocean, it is a joyful island with a range of incredible excursions. From nautical activities to thrilling sports, it offers sensational stays. Its little plus: a culture and a surprising traditional history. We invite you to discover this piece of land with two essential: the Sugar Adventure and the Tea Route!

L’Aventure du Sucre

L’Aventure du Sucre

Discover the history of sugar in Mauritius, dive into the heart of the Indian Ocean and a traditional and authentic culture. In the sugar estate of Beau Plan, an old sugar refinery transformed into a modern and fun museum is traced to the evolution of the exploitation. Indeed, sugar has been the main resource of the island for centuries and is part of the very identity of Mauritius. For both children and adults, take an interactive tour with a guide to discover the manufacturing processes and transformation of this sweetness.

Around specific themes, the visit promises you beautiful discoveries: birth of the island, history of sugar over the years and its link with Mauritius, the technological evolutions of the production and its exploitation, the flag of the cane or finally the discovery of the sugar economy and world trade. In addition, the estate also offers temporary exhibitions on themes related to the environment. During your excursion, you will taste varieties of unrefined sugars made locally but also local specialties: jams, honey from Rodrigues Island or rum.

Finally, along the paths of bougainvillea and coconut palms, follow the tempting odours to the restaurant Le Fangourin to enjoy tasty local cuisine. And, before leaving, stop in the village of Boutik to bring exotic memories back home.

Located in one of the oldest areas of the island, Pamplemousses, is the area adjacent to the splendid Pamplemousses Garden. Known to botanists around the world, it contains a collection of indigenous and exotic plants including the giant Victoria Amazonica water lilies to admire.

La Route du Thé

La Route du Thé

At once gastronomic, cultural and historical, the Tea Route offers you a discovery of tea, sugar cane and vanilla farms in the heart of three preserved areas. You travel South of the island for a discovery of new flavours and secrets of making the famous Mauritian tea.

Your visit begins with the Domaine des Aubineaux located in the highlands. The interior decoration includes furniture from the East India Company but also portraits and period documents that trace the life of the former owners. In addition, a visit of the old stables will be proposed in the middle of a floral park and the garden of the Camphriers which contains endemic trees.

The visit then continues with Bois Darling and its tea factory. Indeed, listening to a guide you will learn the different stages of production, also deepened in the tea museum. After your visit, the panoramic chalet with views of the estate and the South of the island awaits you for a delicious tasting.
