How to get to Marrakech

Situated in the heart of Morocco at the foot of the Atlas mountains in the North of Africa, Marrakech is best reached by air. The main airport is Marrakech International Airport which sees flights from all over Europe arriving on a daily basis and is located around 5km Southwest of the city. It is possible to arrive by other means of transport including rail, road, and by sea. Fares ultimately depend on the season and tend to be higher during the summer months.

By Air - From the UK

From the United Kingdom flights take around 3 and a half hours from London. British Airways operate flights from London Heathrow to Marrakech. Easyjet operate no-frills flights from Manchester and London Gatwick, and Ryanair operate from London Luton and London Stansted. TUI Airways also have flights to Marrakech from both Manchester and London Gatwick. There is also the possibility to take an indirect flight to Marrakech from other UK airports by catching a connecting flight in bigger cities such as London, Amsterdam or Paris. Direct economy flights from London to Marrakech cost between £60 and £350 depending on the airline and the season.

By Air - From the USA

From the United States of America, there are some direct flights. Royal Air Maroc operate direct flights from New York and Montreal to Casablanca with a flight time of around 7 and a half hours. However, this option means you will have to take alternative transport to get to Marrakech, but do not worry as Villanovo can help you to organise transport and pick you up from the airport in Casablanca. The transfer time is only around 2 hours. You can choose to get a connecting flight in either London, Paris or Amsterdam and this may be your best option. Iberia fly to Marrakech while most other airlines fly into Casablanca. From New York a flight costs around US$1,200 during peak season and US$900 in low season for economy flights to Casablanca and Marrakech.

By Air - From Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa

There are no direct flights from Marrakech to Australia, New Zealand or South Africa. If you are traveling from Australia or New Zealand, you must book a connecting flight in either Europe or the Middle East. Emirates or Etihad Airways fly to the United Arab Emirates, otherwise you can opt for a European airline such as Air France or Lufthansa. Flights from Australia cost around $ 2,250 in the high season and $ 1,800 in the off-season, while New Zealand flights cost around $ 2,600 in the high season and $ 2,250 in the off-season. It takes about 23 hours from Australia and 24 hours from New Zealand.
If you want to travel from South Africa, you have three options. You can fly with Emirates and change in Dubai, fly with Egyptair via Cairo or via Paris with Air France. The flights start at around SEK 5,665 throughout the year. A flight from South Africa usually takes about 10 hours.
