Everything you need to do and what not to do in Thailand

It is important when you go to a foreign country to know the local customs and culture. So, for your stay in a dream city to happen smoothly, we have gathered for you all the rules of good behaviour and the gestures to avoid in this beautiful country.

Everything you need to do and what not to do in Thailand - Thailand

What you should do:

Proper dress is required to visit the temples: no short clothing, the shoulders should be covered. Most often you have to remove your shoes before entering the temples, but a sign will tell you when to do it and where to drop your shoes.

Always use your right hand to take an object you are given, a gift or to pass food.

The smile is very important in Thailand, one will almost always answer your smile because it is a social norm.

Also remember not to throw your waste on the floor because there is a high risk of fines. A stump found on land can cost you up to 2,000 THB.

What you should not do:

Women should not touch monks and men should not touch nuns (traditionally in white clothes).

Never steer in a dispute and "lose face to a Thai". In case of disagreement, leave a door open and try to keep the smile.

Never touch a monk or a religious object with the foot, because it is the lowest part of the body, in contact with the ground. This can be taken for an insult.

It is bad to kiss on the mouth or to have gestures too intimate in public. Thai people are modest people.

We must not criticise the King or the Royal Family for this can be taken as an offense.
