When we talk about Ibiza, we immediately think of a party island packed with young revellers, of wild nights with the throbbing beachfront discotheques of San Antoni ablaze with house music. And while that side of the island is very much deserving of its fame, there is so much more to Ibiza than its nightclubs. Further north and to the west of the island, it reveals a laid-back, almost rustic side, where ecotourism, hiking, yoga and relaxation in its secluded bays and rugged landscapes is the order of the day.
The island's cultural programme also reveals another face of the island, for example the International Music Summit, held in San Jordi in May, or the delightful Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos, a colourful parade of the Three Wise Men, distributing toys and sweets to the children on twelfth night in January. Meanwhile Saint-Ciriac in Eivissa Old Town, organised in August, brings the inhabitants together around a large picnic before attending a firework show in the evening.
Long heralded for its nutritional qualities, the Mediterranean diet is, of course, best sampled in its natural habitat. The cuisine of Ibiza is no exception.
