A great family day out, La Vanille Nature Park is home to a number of animals and creatures. Make a day of it and be educated about each one at your own pace. Not to be missed is the crocodile feeding show which takes place at 11:30am daily (except from Monday's and Friday's).

Mauritius Aquarium, situated in Pointe-aux-Piments, is a world of discovery for children and adults alike. Children can learn about marine life and can visit the feeding sessions that take place daily. Wander around the aquarium and see all the species of fish and marine animals that live underwater. 8. L'Aventure du Sucre

This impressive interactive museum and factory is a bit like Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory and will leave children in awe as they travel back through time discovering the story of sugar. Children will also learn about the importance of sugarcane and how it is the main agricultural product of Mauritius. They will have fun with the interactive activities and exploring the museum with their own tour booklet. With a shop and a restaurant onsite this is a good day out for all the family.

With plenty of beaches all around the coastline of the island you really are spoilt for choice! Build sandcastles, try new watersports or simply relax on a towel, there is something for all to do. The best family friendly beaches are Blue Bay, Flic en Flac, La Preneuse and Trou aux Biches.

10. Black River Gorges National Park

​For those that seek adventure and adore the great outdoors will love Black River Gorges National Park. This park is filled with various hiking trails for you to tackle and explore. Enjoy a picnic by one of the waterfalls and try to spot the nine species of local birds.
