How to get to Mauritius

Located in the heart of the Indian Ocean, the best way to get to the beautiful island of Mauritius is by air. The island is 2,264 miles from the East coast of South Africa. The main airport is Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in the Southeast of the island. The high season is from November to February so flight prices are typically higher around Christmas and New Year. From May to October, the Mauritian winter, flights are at their cheapest. Transfers from the airport typically take from about ten minutes to an hour and a half depending on which part of the island you are staying in.

From the UK

From the United Kingdom, direct flights take around 12 hours from London. Air Mauritius flies direct from London Heathrow, and British Airways and Thomson fly direct from London Gatwick. Emirates fly the best non-direct flight via Dubai from both London Heathrow and London Gatwick. Lufthansa also fly to Mauritius from London via Frankfurt. From other UK airports, flying to Mauritius means catching a connecting flight from London. For a direct flight to Mauritius, return economy fares start from around £780 per person depending on the airline and the time of the year.

From the USA

From the United States of America, there are no direct flights. You can choose to get a connecting flight in either London, Paris or Dubai. Flights from New York, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles all have one stop. It takes around 24 hours to get from the USA to Mauritius, but it will definitely be worth it for the views when you get there. From Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa

From Australia, Air Mauritius operate a flight from Perth which takes around 8 hours and is a direct link. Prices start from around $523 depending on where you are flying from and the time of year. A flight from Sydney takes around 15 hours as there is no direct route.
 
From New Zealand, there are no direct flights. You must change in either South Africa or Dubai from Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington airports. Prices start from around $2,184 depending on where you are flying from and the time of year.
 
From South Africa, Air Mauritius fly direct from Johannesburg and Durban with the flight taking around 4 hours. Prices start from around 2,519 Rands depending on the time of year.
